Can I add images without a ZIP?
Yes: an image cell can hold a web address, the name of an image your site or an earlier upload already has, or a file name found in a ZIP you upload with the spreadsheet.

Yes. The value in the cell decides where an image comes from, in this order: a ZIP uploaded with the file, images this configuration sent to the site before, and the site's media library (by file name). A cell can also hold a web address (https://…) that is downloaded when the file is checked.
So a ZIP is only needed for images that are new. Next week's spreadsheet alone reuses what the site already has, and nothing is uploaded again.
