Reviewing and publishing
Read what will change, understand warnings, publish, and handle partial results.
Reviewing
- How the review worksAfter a file is checked, the review shows what will be created, updated, left alone or skipped before anything is sent to your site. How to read each part of the page.
- How rows are matched to items on your siteHow Content Uploader decides that a row is new or the same item as before: by record ID, or by slug or title with the category as tiebreaker.
- What needs your attention before you publishThe review asks you to tick "I reviewed the changes above" for a new version, changed fields or columns, a doubtful first row, products taken over or a large price change.
- Row errors: read them, fix them, upload againRows with a problem are listed under Errors, grouped by message with their row numbers, and skipped while the rest is published. How to read the list and fix the file.
- Skipped items and why they are skippedItems that cannot be published right now are listed under Skipped with the reason: in the trash, being edited, no permission, missing categories or another upload.
- New categories and tags in the reviewThe review lists the categories and tags that publishing will create, and the items skipped because a term is missing. What the lists mean and how to fix them.
Publishing
- Publish your changes: exactly when and how your site is changedWhat happens when you press Publish: the checks made at that moment, the background publishing, the progress and the result, and what can and cannot be undone.
- Publishing results: what happened to each itemThe Publishing results list on the Sites page: one result per item with its status, its ID on your site, the attempts, the error or warning, and what each status means.
- Retry failed items safelyHow to find the items that failed to publish, fix the cause, and send them again with Retry safely without creating duplicates, and when to upload the file again instead.
- Automatic publishing: when a file is published without youWhat automatic publishing does, the exact conditions for a file to be published on its own, why the first file always waits, and how to turn it on or off.
- How Content Uploader avoids duplicates, and when duplicates can still happenThe safeguards that stop an item being published twice (record IDs, the review, the last check, safe retries) and the few cases where two copies can still happen.
- When Publish is refused: every message and what to doThe messages shown when Publish does nothing: out-of-date review, changed destination, reconnect, paused site, too small an allowance, paused workspace.
- Emails about your files: which, when and to whomThe emails Content Uploader sends about an upload (ready for review, published, finished with errors, up to date), who receives each, and how to switch them off.
