The plugin and the service are updated independently. The service stays compatible with older plugin versions where it can, and tells you when an update is needed.
Which version do I have?#
The Sites page shows it after the word Connector, for example WordPress 7.1.3 · connected · Connector 1.0.0. Plugins in WordPress shows it too. After you update the plugin, select Refresh fields on the Sites page to make Content Uploader read the new version.
How to update#
WordPress offers new versions of the plugin as it does for every plugin from the directory, whether you installed it from there or from the ZIP:
- In WordPress, open Dashboard → Updates, or the Plugins list, where the plugin says that a new version is available.
- Update Freakedout Content Uploader CSV & Excel Import there. To have WordPress do it by itself, select Enable auto-updates on the plugin's row in the Plugins list.
- Keep the plugin active. Your connection and everything that was published carry over: the plugin keeps its records, and if it needs new database tables it adds them the first time it runs.
You can also update by upload: download the current ZIP from Sites (installing the plugin), open Plugins → Add Plugin → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP and select Install Now. WordPress notices that the plugin is already installed and offers to replace the current version with the uploaded one. Choose to replace it.
When Content Uploader says the plugin is outdated#
- On the Sites page: The site's connector is too old to renew access from here: update it, or reconnect before then. The connector in use cannot be renewed from Content Uploader. Update it, or reconnect from Settings → Content Uploader, which also renews access.
- When publishing or reading the site: The Content Uploader plugin on this site is outdated. Update it to the latest version. The plugin does not support a feature the service needs. Update it and select Refresh fields.
Things to know#
- Deactivating the plugin revokes the connection. If you deactivate it for troubleshooting, you need to reconnect afterwards.
- Install only one copy of the plugin. WordPress offers to replace the installed copy when you upload a newer ZIP; choose that rather than installing a second copy.
- An update never deletes your posts or the plugin's records of what it created.
