Content Uploader publishes to two platforms. Each needs a small connector installed on your site, because the connector is the only thing that is allowed to create and update content there.
| WordPress | Joomla | |
|---|---|---|
| Versions | 6.6 or later (tested up to 7.1) | 5.x and 6.x |
| PHP on the site | 8.1 or later | 8.1 or later (Joomla 6 itself needs 8.3) |
| Database | MySQL or MariaDB | MySQL 8.0.13+ or MariaDB 10.4+ (not PostgreSQL) |
| Connector | The plugin Freakedout Content Uploader CSV & Excel Import | The package Content Uploader Connector |
| Content you can publish | Posts, pages and other content types registered for the WordPress REST API, and products and product variations on a WooCommerce shop | Articles |
| Install guide | WordPress requirements | Joomla requirements |
Both connectors need your site to be:
- served over HTTPS at a public address that Content Uploader can reach on the standard port (443);
- reachable without a login wall in front of it, such as HTTP basic authentication or an IP allow-list that excludes Content Uploader;
- able to make outgoing HTTPS requests, because images are delivered by your site downloading them from Content Uploader's storage.
Not supported#
- Joomla 4 and earlier, and Joomla on PostgreSQL. The installer refuses them and explains why.
- WordPress multisite. The plugin refuses to activate on a network.
- Sites that can only be reached over IPv6, sites on a private address (an intranet or a development machine), and sites that redirect their connector address elsewhere.
- Other content management systems. No other connector exists yet, and nothing in this documentation should be read as a promise of one.
WooCommerce#
A WooCommerce shop is a WordPress site with the WooCommerce plugin (9.0 or later). Its products and the variations of its variable products are offered as content types, with prices, sales, stock and the other fields of a product (WooCommerce).
Differences you will notice#
WordPress and Joomla do not store content in the same way, so the mapping screen offers different fields. A Joomla article has exactly one category and a required one; a WordPress post can have several categories, tags and other taxonomies. Joomla has intro and full text; WordPress has one content field. WordPress and Joomla compared lists every difference, and the platform guides (WordPress, Joomla) cover each platform's fields in detail.
