The Publish button is greyed out or missing
Why the Publish button is grey or missing and what each cause needs from you: a tick box, a newer check, the allowance, a paused site or workspace, or a file not ready.

The button is deliberately cautious: it is only available when publishing would be correct, complete and allowed. Each cause below shows its own message on the page, so the page itself tells you what to do.
Symptoms#
- The button says Nothing to publish.
- Publish N changes is grey and does nothing when pressed.
- There is no Publish button at all.
Likely causes#
Confirmed (each is a rule of the page itself):
- There is nothing to publish. The file has no new or updated items: everything is unchanged, skipped or an error. The button says Nothing to publish.
- The confirmation box is not ticked. When the page shows Please look at the changes before publishing with reasons (the first file with a configuration, a changed configuration, changed columns), the button waits for I reviewed the changes above.
- A newer check exists. A banner says This file was checked again since you opened these results. Approval applies only to what you have seen.
- The allowance is short. A box says Not enough of your allowance left, with the numbers.
- The site is paused by your plan. A box says This site is paused by your plan's site limit.
- A publish is already in progress: the button reads Publishing….
- The file is not at the review stage. The button only exists for a file that is Ready for review. A file that is Reading file, Checking, Needs mapping, Publishing, Done or failed has no Publish button.
- Your workspace is suspended, or all publishing is paused. A notice at the top of every page says so.
Step-by-step solution#
| What you see | Do this |
|---|---|
| Nothing to publish | Fix the rows with errors and upload again, or accept that the file is up to date (row errors, skipped items). |
| Please look at the changes before publishing | Read the reasons, tick I reviewed the changes above. |
| This file was checked again since you opened these results. | Select Show the latest, read the new results, publish. |
| Not enough of your allowance left | Publish the first N changes (the rest later), wait for the date shown, or Upgrade your plan (plans and allowances). |
| This site is paused by your plan's site limit | An owner chooses the active sites on Sites, or upgrades. Checking and reviewing still work. |
| The file is Needs mapping | Select Update mapping for this file (when columns change). |
| The file is Reading file or Checking | Wait: you can leave the page, and you are emailed when it is ready. If it never moves, see an upload that is stuck. |
| A notice about the workspace or about paused publishing | Read it and follow it (workspaces). |
How to verify#
The button reads Publish N changes and can be pressed; pressing it shows N changes queued for publishing. and the page switches to the publishing progress.
If it persists#
- Reload the page: a stale page may be showing an old state.
- If the message under the button is a refusal after you pressed it, see when Publish is refused.
- Contact support with the file's name, the configuration's name and a screenshot of the page.
