Renewing access to your Joomla site, or reconnecting it

Access to a Joomla site lasts 90 days. How the reminders work, how to renew in one click without signing in to Joomla, and how to reconnect when renewing is not possible.

For security, the access key a site gives Content Uploader expires after 90 days. Renewing it is free and does not depend on your plan or on whether a payment is due. Nothing you have set up is lost either way: configurations, uploads and publishing history stay, and so does everything already on your site.

You are reminded before it ends#

Content Uploader emails the people who use the site 14 days, 7 days and 1 day before access ends, and once more if it has ended. The same warning appears in the app: a yellow box on the dashboard cards that publish to the site, and a note on the Sites page. The email's Renew access button opens Content Uploader. On the Joomla side, Components → Content Uploader Connector shows Access expires and Last renewed from Content Uploader.

Renew in one click#

  1. Open Sites (or the link in the email, or the yellow box on the dashboard) and select Renew access. The renewal page says when access ends.
  2. Select Renew access for 90 days.

Renewing happens over the existing connection: nobody needs to sign in to Joomla or use a Joomla password. The page then shows the new end date. The old key keeps working for ten minutes, so an upload that is being published at that moment is not interrupted.

A team member who was given the site can renew it. Only an owner can disconnect a site.

If renewing is not possible#

Access to … ended on …, so only reconnecting from Joomla restores it. Reconnect from Joomla (below).

Reconnect from Joomla#

Reconnecting also renews access, and it keeps all mappings and history:

  1. In Joomla, open Components → Content Uploader Connector. Check the account under Publish as: reconnecting is also how you change it.
  2. Select Reconnect, continue to Content Uploader, sign in as a workspace owner and select Approve connection for the same workspace. The site is recognised as the one that was connected before; it does not count as a new site, so the Free plan's one-site limit does not stop it.

The Joomla screen explains it: Reconnecting replaces the access key and keeps everything already published. To publish as another account, choose it and reconnect. Access lasts 90 days for security: Content Uploader reminds the connected workspace before it expires, and a member can renew it there without signing in to Joomla.

Step by step with pictures: connecting your Joomla site. The same process for WordPress is in renewing or reconnecting a WordPress site.
